Teche Growers Association is a 501C3 agriculture organization that has grown from 25 members since
inception in 2015 to 90 plus members in 2018. The agriculture industries
of sugarcane, rice, soybeans, crawfish and cattle farming are represented among the five parishes of Iberia, Lafayette, St. Mary, St. Martin & Vermillion. Any other agriculture business entity not mentioned or individual are welcome to join. The organizers of this association wanted to bring agriculture & community minded people together as a group and talk about best practices, current events and
also to mentor the young people coming up in the agriculture industries. Teche Growers Association’s main community involvement projects are liter abatement and safety.
The Teche Growers Association Area contributes $1.5 billion a year to the area economy. When all of the support businesses and employees are considered, agriculture touches the lives of everyone in Louisiana. Because of the importance
of agriculture to our lives, our economy and our culture, this association is imperative. The mission statement of Teche Growers Association is “Educate, Promote & Preserve.” The idea behind the Association is to educate the members and their communities in agriculture practices to promote their respective businesses. By doing that, they will preserve history and heritage and honor the generations that have paved the way for a way of life that has made our community what it is today. One of the challenges of agriculture is to enhance sustainability of a quality food supply for generations into the future. The past will not be forgotten, the present will provide an economic engine for the communities and the future of agriculture in our area will be insured.
